Some Thoughts on My Books

We all have a life story. Some of its chapters are written when we are born, others are a narrative determined by our aspirations and chance.

The stories for my books are drawn from old photos, a thick stack of spiral notebooks, observations and encounters. They are reflective and sometimes introspective, and are about places I've been, experiences I've had, and describe some of the people and events that have added a tile on the mosaic that is my life.

Everyone has dreams. It seemed as though mine were just exotic birds out of reach in the treetops. Most of them flew away while I watched, leaving the flutter of their wings as a reminder.

When I was growing up, I wanted to see the sky but felt there were too many things blocking the view. I dreamt of seeing other cultures, mountains, the great forests and oceans.  I had a youthful need to explore the places, and discover the promises, that I imagined were on the horizon beyond the crowded rooms of the housing project where I lived with my seven brothers and sisters

I went out looking for the world and found a little bit of myself, thankful for some of the paths I’d taken, and even more thankful for a few that I missed.  Click on the  book titles below and come along with me.
