A Warning and
a Challenge
I had never heard of anyone crossing the Sahara from north to south on a motorcycle. I was traveling into the unknown, and for me it was a good reason to do it. Kersti and I greeted people we met on the trail with the common desert phrase “Bon courage,” an expression that meant both good luck and hang in there. I never felt that it took much luck to cross the Sahara, but it take both stamina and determination. Crossing the desert on a motorcycle was the equivalent of free climbing where there wasn’t a safety rope to catch you if you slipped or lost your grip. You had to rely on your own strength and skill.
